Prepare to get angry:

  1. Why should I get angry? I saw no one being detained nor did I view anything even close to a beating in this video. I don’t understand.

    • True, the video doesn’t show anyone being physically detained or beaten, and it’s possible that the witnesses at the end were lying. You should be angry because this cop finds it acceptable to interrogate someone for doing nothing other than filming some buildings and then complain when she doesn’t cower before his authority.

Ask yourself where this encounter seemed to be heading. The cop demanded a reason the woman was filming, and found her answer unacceptable, implying that she was a terrorism risk. Short of her showing deference, detention seemed inevitable to me.

Cop was acting like a self-important arse with the right to do whatever he feels like; witnesses say they saw beating; police violence is common. Things may not be as they seem, but most likely story should make every decent person very angry.

  2. I’m not saying the cop didn’t have a superiority thing going on, or that the encounter is atypical, but I just got the feeling (and I could be wrong,) that the whole thing was staged and/or provoked by the videographer.

There are plenty of videos out there of thugs with tin stars and blue suits inflicting violence on their fellow man that do make my blood boil. The bully in the midwest (I think it was Oklahoma or Nebraska) that grabbed the ambulance driver by the throat, the guy in Utah that got zapped by the side of the freeway, and the kid who was murdered on the San Francisco subway all come to mind. This particular video just doesn’t contain the raw footage of the atrocities claimed in the title and just seems a bit too produced and edited for me to believe.

    • There are certainly more graphic videos. I think this is about the best I’ve seen showing the lead-up to brutality and the arrogance of a cop.

Seemed genuine to me. She certainly provoked the cop by not deferring to his authority.

  3. I definitely thought the cop over-reacted. He wanted identification of her being an architect, what if she was on holiday or even just didn’t have work-related things on her at the time.
